Adore Me Review
This is a review of the e-commerce lingerie brand Adore Me. The team at Adore Me loves the mission of Your Breast Self and asked to partner with me to promote body positivity and self-acceptance. And since that’s what I’m all about, I agreed to test out a few of their products.
Adore Me is a new lingerie company that offers quality lingerie at an affordable price. The e-tailer aspires to be an inclusive brand that makes beautiful lingerie accessible to more women. One of the best things about Adore Me is that it offers a great range of sizes and styles – 30A all the way up to 44G!
It also offers a “lingerie subscription” service, which gives you monthly lingerie deliveries and special VIP perks.
In this post I’ll review my Adore Me experience and share three of my favorite styles for small busts. I’ll also share what I learned from my 1-on-1 session with a stylist in their NYC showroom!
But before I get into the product reviews and photos, let me tell you a little more about Adore Me.
New Kid on the Block
Like many new startups, the Adore Me concept was born out of necessity.
The founder, Morgan Hermand-Waiche, came up with the idea after having a frustrating time lingerie shopping for his girlfriend. (Fun fact: Victoria’s Secret was also founded by a man who wanted an easier way to shop for lingerie for his wife . . .go figure)
Hermand-Waiche couldn’t seem to find lingerie that was both good quality and affordable. Everything was either too expensive or too cheaply made.
Yet, this is not surprising when you consider the fact that one brand dominates 62% of the lingerie market (hint: it’s not Hanes). . .
For Hermand-Waiche, this signaled only one thing: DISRUPTION. But rather than attempt to improve the existing in-store experience as other retailers have done, he made it his mission to disrupt the entire lingerie value chain.
The Adore Me Model
How did he do this? Well, instead of selling in stores or wholesale, Adore Me develops its own products and sells direct to consumers online.
Due to its online model, Adore Me doesn’t have the physical space limitations or high overhead costs of brick and mortar retailers.
This allows Adore Me to stock a wide variety of sizes at a cheaper price point, without sacrificing quality. That’s something that most traditional lingerie retailers can’t pull off!
Adore Me is also doing some cool things with technology. The company uses extensive A/B testing to assess consumer preferences, and it quickly pivots when things aren’t working. In fact, it’s constantly iterating – sometimes churning out 30-40 new designs a month.
This is unheard of, especially in an industry that hasn’t seen much innovation in decades!
Good Quality, Affordable Price
According to one of Adore Me’s designers, the company sells products of similar quality to Victoria’s Secret, but at a cheaper price. Helen Mears, former head of design for Victoria’s Secret Angels, actually oversees Adore Me’s entire design process.
Adore Me bundles bras and panties together, so you get a bra + panty for the same price that a single bra would be at Victoria’s Secret.
The brand also offers an optional VIP monthly subscription service membership. For a monthly fee of $39.95, you get $10 off every bra/panty set, free shipping, $20 off your first bra/panty set (making it $24.95), and every 6th purchase is free. You can learn more about VIP here.
Now all a sudden you can afford to replace your bras every year! (Yes, like you’re supposed to… 😉 )
My Adore Me Experience
Shopping Experience Part 1: Mobile Shopping
Adore Me gets a lot of traffic through its mobile app, so I decided to test out the experience for myself.
I found the app to be very user friendly. It has great filtering options and detailed product shots. The interface made it super easy to browse and flip between products.
I ordered three bra/panty sets in a size 32A bra (my size in Natori and Calvin Klein) and XS panty. I tried to order items that small-breasted women typically prefer (push-up) or find difficult to fit (unlined bras and lingerie).
A few days later my products arrived. But when I tried on the products, none of them fit! 🙁 🙁 The first two bras were too big in the cup, and the bralette I ordered didn’t provide enough support.
Figures . . .this always happens!!!
But rather than give up, I decided to give Adore Me the benefit of the doubt.
Maybe I just needed a different size?
I knew that my “sister” size was a 30B. Unfortunately, this is a very hard size to find in stores, so I usually don’t consider it.
BUT it turns out that Adore Me carries size 30B – and it offers that size in a ton of great styles. SCORE.
I also learned that Adore Me has a showroom in NYC where they offer personal bra fittings. So rather than order more bras online, I decided to visit the showroom and get fitted IRL.
Shopping Experience Part II: The Showroom
When I arrived at the Adore Me showroom, I was greeted by my personal bra stylist, Angela.
She led me into a showroom decorated with white shag rugs, gold mirrors, and lace bras adorning the walls.
Angela made me feel right at home. She had even set out chocolates and a card with my name on it. FAB.
The first thing we did was chat about my style preferences and fit challenges. Then Angela took me into the dressing room and measured me. I explained that I wanted to try size 30B and she confirmed that seemed like a wise choice.
This ended up being a great decision. The styles that were too large in the 32A size fit much better in size 30B. Some styles I still preferred in 32A, but most of the push-ups fit better in 30B.
I actually had trouble deciding what I wanted to keep because there were so many styles that fit. Whoa.
This just goes to show you that if your bra isn’t fitting properly, it’s not you that’s the problem – it’s the bra.
So, let this be a lesson to you: Never try just one size or style 🙂
OK, let’s get into the good stuff! After testing a bunch of styles, I kept the following products:
Yes, you saw that right – TWO unlined bras.
Wait – small breasts don’t look good in unlined bras. I thought you preferred lightly lined or natural-looking push-up?
Well I usually do . . .but that’s because I haven’t come across very many good unlined bras for small breasts. But Adore Me has a lot of great options, and it totally turned me on to the idea of buying more unlined bras.
#1) Vivianne Unlined
This was the first product Angela fit on me. She recommends it as a good base product to use to assess your size.
At first I was super skeptical because it’s unlined (I worried it would make my breasts look shapeless or non-existent since that’s what I’ve experienced in the past). But I decided to trust her.
I was very pleasantly surprised! A few things contributed to a great fit:
- Balconette style – the smaller, horizontal-cut cups hold the breasts from underneath and provide the look of fullness and lift.
- Underwire – I used to always think underwires were just for bigger-breasted women, but it turns out underwires actually serve a great purpose when they are the appropriate size and shape for small busts. The wire really helps to lift and shape the breast – without padding or push-up. Who knew?!
- Lace – because lace is pliable, it lays flat against the breast, minimizing gape between the cup and skin
This was the first time I found a real unlined lace bra (not bralette) that provided adequate shaping. I could actually wear it under a loose-fitting normal shirt without feeling self-conscious.
Although I wouldn’t wear this under a tight tank top, it’s a great option for looser shirts when you want something a little sexier than your standard bra.
Barely-there lace bras don’t just have to be for special occasions!
#2) Finicka Contour Unlined
This was my favorite Adore Me bra. The dainty lace cups draw support from an inner “half cup” – a super shallow fabric cup that covers less than half the breast, acting almost like a “sling” to shape and support the breasts.
The contoured underwire and lace overlay provide extra shaping and lift, while also preventing gaping.
This bra gives you a really nice round shape and and the contoured wire actually creates a bit of cleavage – without padding!
I also just think it’s really beautiful. It’s just sheer enough to be suggestive, while still leaving something to the imagination.
Another lace bra! I guess I went a little crazy after all these years of not finding lace bras in my size 😉
The difference is that this lace bra is a push-up convertible bra. You can cross the straps to make it racerback-style, or remove them to make it strapless. If you choose to use the straps, it looks like normal balconette style, which provides great support for shallow breasts.
Additionally, the push-up pads are removable, so you can wear them for some extra oomph (good for tight tube tops that compress your shape). Or, take them out if you want a more natural look.
This is also a great option for women with uneven breasts because you can use the push-up pad in the cup on your smaller side to even you out.
Additional Adore Me Styles
I also tried on a few other styles that I didn’t end up keeping, but I’ll summarize quickly for you:
Karianne Push-Up Balconette
I liked this one, but not as much as the other push-ups I tried. The cut was less flattering and the push-up looked less natural (more inward versus upward).
However, the sizing/fit was accurate, so I wouldn’t rule it out if you’re testing out push-up styles, as it may flatter your body type.
Lidia Push-up Racerback
This is a solid push-up racerback. I love the lace back (it’s also very comfortable).
But it provides pretty substantial push-up, which is further accentuated by the halter-like nature of the racerback (pulls you up and in). So if you want a more natural look, I suggest trying Adore Me’s regular contour racerback bras.
Again, the contoured underwire will give you more lift and shaping than you might think!
Sandee Contour Long-line Bra
This bra did not fit in the cups and the shape was not right for my body. I’d wait until they update the fit.
The cups were too big for me. I ordered the smallest size (XS), so unfortunately there weren’t smaller options to try.
This is a satin bralette. I love the way it looks on the models online, but unfortunately, I didn’t fill it out. The satin didn’t lay well on me and didn’t provide enough support. I prefer lace bralettes.
What Would I Improve?
Adore Me also sells swimsuits, but unfortunately they were all too big in the cup. I’d love to see them offer swimsuits with cups that are more in line with the sizing of their small bras.
More Strapless Bras
While I liked the strapless bra I tried, I’d also like a non-lace version for a smoother look under shirts. Adore Me actually uses lace that isn’t supposed to show through shirts, but I’d still prefer a non-lace version under tight tops.
Better Explanation of the VIP Program
When explaining Adore Me to some of my friends, I found that the VIP subscription shopping model confused them. They weren’t sure if they had to sign up for VIP, or if it was optional (note: it is optional).
I’d like to see Adore Me make this process a bit easier to understand for first-time customers. Check out the video explanation here.
More Breathable Fabrics
Adore Me offers plenty of lace and satin options (they are a lingerie company after all), but I’d like to see more panties with breathable fabric. I received a few mesh panties, which I really like, but I wish there were more options.
Adore Me Review: My Final Thoughts
I had a great Adore Me experience and give it the Your Breast Self stamp of approval.
I love that Adore Me offers a wide range of styles for small busts and has them in stock in many colors. Plus, the price is right!
Usually only the expensive brands (or teen brands like PINK and Aerie) stock small sizes like 30B. So it’s great to see a real lingerie brand offer so many affordable options for small busts.
I also appreciate that Adore Me strives to be an inclusive brand that supports all body types. They actually use real plus size models, unlike other lingerie companies.
While Adore Me is still fine-tuning its VIP program and product lines, these aren’t deal breakers for me. I’m actually looking forward to watching Adore Me evolve in the future, especially since it has a proven track record of adapting quickly to new trends.
If you’re tired of buying overpriced lingerie and frustrated by old school lingerie retailers, you should give Adore Me a try!
I want to hear from you! What do you think about this Adore Me review? I’d also love to hear if you’ve tried any other online bra brands. Let me know in the comments below!
